The Rotary Clubs of La Mesa, La Mesa Sunrise and El Cajon Sunset came together on Saturday, April 24 for their annual Rotarians at Work Day to help members of the new La Mesa Community Garden prepare for its May 1 opening. The garden is coordinated by the La Mesa Park and Recreation Foundation and is the first in the City of La Mesa. It is located at MacArthur Park at what was the putting green of the former golf course. The progress made by the volunteers was substantial, as they helped build garden beds, put together shelves, weeded, shoveled and raked mulch and filled beds with soil. The weather was perfect and the fellowship and team work between the clubs was exciting. We look forward to future joint projects between our clubs. Thank you to everyone for lending your talents and being “people of action”!
